Winner of the Box Hill Institute of TAFE 2008/09 Whitehorse Business of Year Overall Business Excellence Award went to Maton Guitars    
   


Maton Guitars, (pronounced ‘May Ton’), was established in 1946 and is currently located in Box Hill. Originally founded in Melbourne by Bill May, Maton is still a 100% family owned Australian company.  Maton specialises in creating quality acoustic and electric guitars, made from Australian timbers.  Maton exports its products to countries across the globe and recognized as a leading guitar manufacturer.  Many notable performers now perform on the local and international stages playing Maton Guitars. Currently experience steady business growth due to the recognized quality of Maton products and the optimum customer service it offers.

Located in Blackburn and established in 1985, Silliker Australia employs over 160 staff and is a leading international accredited food testing and consulting network.  To date Silliker is established in over 50 locations in 15 countries.

Silliker Australia has strengthened its ability to service and support clients in Australia by drawing upon worldwide resources and scientific expertise within its network. Silliker Australia’s focus is consulting and lab analysis in Industrial Microbiology, Chemistry and their related areas.

Winner of the AMP 2008/09 Whitehorse Small Business Award  went to Maxa Design 

Located in the Blackburn Village Shopping Precinct, Maxa Design specializes in designing innovative energy efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings.  Created in 2004 by business owner Sven Maxa, whose passion and experience is the driving force in developing designs that make a point of difference.  This Award winning business is leading the way in creativity, design whilst offering a complete and premium service to its suppliers, clients and customers.

Winner of the Deakin University 2008/09 Whitehorse Business Growth and Development Award went to Hawk Measurement Systems 
 

  Located in Nunawading and established in 1987, Hawk Measurement Systems currently employ 42 staff. This company prides itself as an Australian manufacturer of level, positioning and flow measurement technology and provides cutting-edge equipment to the global industrial market. Hawk Measurement Systems are a specialised business with a unique range of products.  Hawk Measurement Systems have recorded a consistent growth of their business across Australia and on the global front since its inception, a highly successful business with a unique range of products and services.

Winner of the 2008/09 Whitehorse Retail Business Award went to Nunawading Toyota 
 

Located in its landmark premises in Nunawading and established in 2004, this business employs over 130 full time staff.  Nunawading Toyota is one of Melbourne’s largest and most reputable Toyota dealerships carrying a range of new and used cars including a dedicated vehicle service centre. Nunawading Toyota is known for their customer relationship and service quality.  Nunawading Toyota prides itself through the sale and service of high quality new and used vehicles whilst offering the optimum after sale service to its customers.

went to Gourmet Girl Cafe

Located in the beautiful, quaint shopping precinct of Laburnum in Blackburn, this thriving café employs 19 staff.  Business owner Peter Plummer has been in the hospitality business for over 25 years and saw the potential of this unique café and took ownership recently to further grow the business.  With a strong community and customer service focus Gourmet Girl Café sets a high standard through their presentation, varied menu and friendly atmosphere.

 Winner of the City of Whitehorse 2008/09 Whitehorse Mayoral Award Environment and Sustainability went to Water & Energy Savers

 Located in Burwood and established in 1992, Water & Energy Savers employs over 40 staff.  An innovative Australian organisation at the global forefront of developing, providing and managing practical, technical and engineered solutions for the water and energy resources used by commercial and industrial business, government and the private sector.  A business that has moved to address the global challenges that we are all faced with, in particular our environment.  Offering specialist services in design and supply of environmentally sustainable initiatives.

Winner of the 2008/09 Whitehorse Business Achievement and Recognition Awards went to Integrated Education and Communication
 

Located in Blackburn and established in 1999, this business employs over 6 full time staff and 7 part time staff.  Integrated Education and Communication offers specialized education and supervisory support services for children who have autism and other related developmental childhood disorders.  This includes individualised educational and behavioural programs, specially designed to strengthen and optimize the child’s education and inclusion.  A business that was set up with full family support now provides that much needed support to those who need it most.

Currently employing 5 staff, Watermans Collision Repair Centre is a quality boutique smash repair facility which provides professional accident repair solutions for busy people.  Watermans is a family owned business that prides itself on service quality and meeting the agreed delivery time.  Their experienced and skilled staff and the upgrading of operational processes have all contributed to the successful development of this boutique auto repair centre
